What is microneedling?

microneedling is a cosmetic skin treatment that combines two popular skin rejuvenation methods for enhanced results. During a typical microneedling procedure, your Luminance Laser Spa provider uses a specialized device with tiny needles to make holes in your skin. Your skin responds to these pinpricks as injuries and produces collagen to heal them quickly.

Platelet-rich plasma is a substance derived from your own body. Your doctor draws some of your blood and places it into a machine that spins quickly to separate its components. One of those components, your platelets, jump in to help your body heal each time you get an injury. They’re responsible for clotting your blood to help it form scabs and promote new cell regeneration to replace cells that are damaged or missing.

injections after microneedling boost the effects of the microneedling by speeding up the healing process. The combined treatments work together to rejuvenate your skin and even continue the healing of old scars.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling is designed to specifically benefit the skin on your face. After a session, you notice a substantial reduction in:

  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Acne scars
  • Other scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Dullness

Overall, your skin feels firmer and looks younger. Your skin’s new look lasts for about a year, and you can come back to Luminance Laser Spa for maintenance sessions to keep it glowing.

Am I a good candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling is generally safe when performed by a licensed professional because the comes from your own body, and many patients make great candidates. However, there are a few criteria you must meet to minimize your risk of reacting poorly to the microneedling component.

The Luminance Laser Spa team may dissuade you from getting the treatment if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Form scars easily
  • Use Accutane or similar medications for your acne
  • Have irritated skin conditions (e.g., eczema, rosacea)
  • Recently had radiation treatments

If you’re not the best candidate for microneedling, your provider helps you explore similar treatment options that are more gentle on your skin.

If your skin could use a refreshed glow, call Luminance Laser Spa or book your visit online to learn more about microneedling and find out what it can do for you.

Microneedling Procedure

All Microneedling Procedures are multi-session procedures, most clients need 3 to 5 sessions before it can be determined that your work is complete. Microneedling sessions are determined at the time of consult, so you will know the breakdown of the sessions for your treatment on your first visit. Microneedling is also done in 4-week intervals for the healing process to be complete. Some clients may need 6-week intervals, this will determined at your 4-week consult.

What to Expect At your Session

Disclaimer:  Please do not schedule important plans the day of or right after your scheduled appointment. Although most clients are in and out within 1-2 hours, sometimes you may be here longer, especially if there is someone getting worked on before you. Microneedling should never be rushed, and every person’s case is different and can take more or less time. We are here to give every client the same quality treatment and do not rush any service. Most clients come with that understanding and appreciate that their service will also not be rushed for any reason. We appreciate your patience and understanding in advance.

At your appointment, a topical numbing cream will be applied for 35-45 minutes to ensure you are comfortable during your procedure. After the removal of the numbing cream, we will begin with the process of Microneedling.  Serums may be added to your treatments for specific corrections to the skin, along with post treatment products for best results. You know everything prior to starting you treatment.

Things to avoid prior to Microneedling treatments

- Chemical peels, retinols & topical medications should be discontinued at least 10-14 days prior

- No microdermabrasion or facial laser services 2-4 weeks before or after the procedure

- Avoid blood thinning medications 72 hours prior to your appointment. Please consult with your physician before discontinuing any medications.

- Caffeine, alcohol, smoking and Advil should be avoided the day of your appointment. Caffeine, alcohol and Advil thin the blood and cause excess bleeding during the treatment process, which can affect the healing for Microneedling.
